Meta Platforms has revealed that it is providing researchers with access to a new "humanlike" artificial intelligence model that can analyze and complete images with a higher degree of accuracy than existing models.
The new model, i-JEPA, uses prior knowledge about the world to fill in missing parts of images, rather than simply looking at nearby components like other generative AI models. This approach involves a kind of human-like thinking supported by chief artificial intelligence scientist Jan Lucan and helps the technology avoid common errors in AI-generated images, such as a human hand appearing with extra fingers.
Meta is one of the most popular publishers of open-source AI research through its own in-house research lab.
